Third Sector Networks Elections.

This is a quick reminder of the Third Sector elections for the Borough Partnership (BP) and Local Public Service Board (LPSB). The four Third Sector Networks will elect 6 Representatives to the Borough Partnership and 1 Representative to the Local Public Service Board. Do remember that you will need to register with one or more of the four Third Sector Networks, as only registered groups/organizations can vote or self-nominate for election as Representative. Self-nominations require endorsement from another registered organisation.

Please note that the deadline for self nomination was extended to Tuesday 26 January 2010.

For more information on the election process and how to get involved with the Third Sector Networks go to www.cavsa.org.uk

CaVSA Apprenticeship Programme.

What is an Apprenticeship?

It’s a chance to learn valuable skills whilst earning . At CaVSA we offer borough residents from 16 to 19 year old (up to 25 if you are registered disabled) the chance to combine undertaking academic qualifications and working in a busy third sector environment – learning skills that on the job training provides in a constantly changing environment. The Third Sector voluntary sector offers a unique opportunity to learn transferable skills to help meet the needs of challenging and rewarding work.

CaVSA offers a chance to learn skills across the board to give apprentices a sample of the work they wish to specialise in. Currently, CaVSA are working alongside organisations that specialise in health and social care, finance, disability and housing support, showing the wide range of opportunities available.

Funded by North Fulham NDC, CaVSA have placed 11 apprentices in local organisations (January 2010) to learn valuable skills that could lead to permanent employment, whilst studying at Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College to NVQ Level 2, with plans for further schemes within the local area.

What can I get from it?

If you are 16-19, not in full time work or education and are actively looking for work and have had little experience since completing education, the scheme is ideal for you. You get a chance to boost your CV with extra qualifications and learn office skills, as well as take on your own projects to improve interaction, communication and confidence in your own ability. You will also gain a wage of at least £120 per week, your travel to college will be paid and you will get a clothing grant of £100 to help you purchase work clothing. Most importantly you will get an education in the world of work.

What can the host organisation get from it?

A committed, willing member of staff. You will gain someone that wants to learn and eager to take on new tasks. You may also gain a long term member of staff, and someone who is loyal. Not only will wages be covered for the member of staff, but you will also be paid a contribution towards management costs fee for supervising the apprentice. It’s a win win situation for both apprentices and host organisations, so what are you waiting for? Get in touch with CaVSA and speak with Michael Brosnan now about joining the scheme.
